Reflecting on Peak and Everest



Now that we have finished our novel, Peak, and the documentary, Everest, let's take some time to reflect on our learning in the context of this unit's essential questions.

Task
Your task is to select one of the prompts below and respond to it in three or more well-structured paragraphs.
  • How do global citizens conduct themselves?
    • Define global citizenship and explain how global citizens should conduct themselves.
    • Select a character(s) from Peak or Everest and explain how he/she demonstrated global citizenship on the mountain.
    • Set a goal for yourself on how you will demonstrate global citizenship in the upcoming year. Provide clear examples and evidence to explain how you intend to achieve this goal.
  • How can we impact our community?
    • Define community and explain the ways in which an individual can impact their community.
    • Select a character(s) from Peak or Everest and explain how he/she impacted the community of climbers on the mountain. 
    • Set a goal for yourself on how you will positively impact your community(s) in the upcoming year. Provide clear examples and evidence to explain how you intend to achieve this goal.
  • Why are leaders necessary?
    • Define leadership and explain why leaders are necessary.
    • Select a character(s) from Peak or Everest and explain how his/her leadership was needed on the mountain.
    • Set a goal for yourself on how you will demonstrate leadership in the upcoming year. Provide clear examples and evidence to explain how you intend to achieve this goal.
  • How do stories affect our perceptions?
    • Define perception and explain how perceptions can affect our point of view.
    • Explain how reading Peak or watching Everest changed your perceptions regarding mountain climbing.
    • Just as the Everest climbers set a goal to challenge themselves, set a goal for how you will challenge yourself in the upcoming year.  Provide clear examples and evidence to explain how you intend to achieve this goal.
